While visiting the Paola Lenti showroom, I had the feeling of walking into a fairytale garden where every element was in perfect harmony with the surrounding environment. The delicate tones, soft shapes, and natural and technological materials conveyed a true feeling of psychological and physical well-being.
The reason lies in the search for balance, which is essential to establish the right harmony in an environment, but it is only thanks to the sensitivity of those who imagine, produce and design things that such results can be achieved. Sensitivity is a superb human quality that drives people to enable constructive dialogue between similar minds that share the same vision.
It was precisely this quality that led to the encounter between Paola Lenti and Francesco Rota in the late 1990s. Both young and eager to challenge themselves, Paola and Francesco soon discovered a great affinity in their tastes and an open and curious approach to design devoid of superstructures. A spontaneous and authentic confrontation was immediately triggered between them, a dynamic and stimulating exchange, where passion and enthusiasm generated a new, original and colourful vision of design. Since the company was founded in 1994, Paola Lenti’s business has been driven by a deep concern for the planet and its inhabitants.
Paola Lenti
Both production processes and products are inspired by a deep respect for nature. For this reason, no toxic chemicals are used, local production is preferred and, concerning synthetic materials, recyclable materials or materials from recycling processes are employed. Experimentation, recycling, protection of Made in Italy production and craftsmanship, essential and timeless design: these are the pillars of a growth-oriented company strategy that never loses sight of sustainable development.
Since the outset, Paola Lenti has had a strong tendency to experiment with materials, searching for new yarns and fabrics to play with, creating new shapes and unprecedented colour combinations. Francesco’s ability to interpret the materials studied by Paola led them to work together on the first projects in felt, the soft, highly consistent and compact fabric which the company still uses to make its rugs today. This was how a two-dimensional material acquired three dimensions and was transformed into a seat, finding new shapes and presenting multiple options for combinations.
Wave
In 1998, the company thus launched its first seating solutions: the Atollo sofa and the Linea chaise longue, intended for indoor use, upholstered in felt, which achieved unexpected success. This was the official beginning of a collaboration that continues to this day, and which gave shape to a highly distinctive collection of furniture and accessories. A collaboration based on trust and a mutual sense of proportions and harmony, concepts that are still at the foundation of the company’s design philosophy. In the same years, around the turn of the new millennium, Paola Lenti was looking for an innovative textile material for outdoor use and found great potential in polypropylene, light and waterproof fibre.

PAOLA LENTI HA SVILUPPATO COMPETENZE SPECIFICHE ANCHE NEL SETTORE DELLA NAUTICA, AL QUALE È IN GRADO DI OFFRIRE PRODOTTI SU MISURA SECONDO LE ESIGENZE DEGLI ARCHITETTI E DEI CANTIERI NAVALI CON CUI HA STRETTO DA ANNI SOLIDI RAPPORTI DI COLLABORAZIONE.
The path to obtain the right yarn, however, was still quite long. With enthusiasm and perseverance, Lenti joined the Chemistry Department of the University of Turin to complete the various stages of research. In 2002, Rope saw the light – a 100% recyclable synthetic yarn that is naturally water-repellent and resistant to mould and bacteria.
The launch of Rope practically marked Paola Lenti’s entry into the outdoor market. As a result, the company was now ready to launch its first outdoor textile collection and the year 2003 became the year of the great challenge. Francesco Rota interpreted this new material by upholstering Linea, the indoor chaise longue that only five years earlier had already won a gold mention for the Compasso d’Oro for its sinuous and innovative shapes.
Linea was given a new dress and changed its name: Wave was the first chaise longue with a textile essence suitable for outdoor living. Twenty years after its birth, on the occasion of the 2023 edition of the Fuorisalone, the company will present a new edition of the piece, now characterised by an unprecedented fabric weave inspired by the technique of Japanese knots, which is remarkable for its complex handcrafted workmanship. In this case, the material used is Twiggy, the latest technical yarn made exclusively by Paola Lenti. Waterproof and particularly resilient against dirt, Twiggy is abrasion-resistant and its colours do not fade under the rays of the sun.
