Going on board the A80new was an unusual experience. One immediately feels that every square metre has genuinely been thought through in terms of how it will be used.
The boat is interesting because everything has a purpose: from the flow of people to the distribution of spaces, from the opening of the windows to the relationship between inside and out. Despite the rainy day, we tried out this super yacht off the Sorrento Peninsula. It is like being wrapped up in a butterfly’s chrysalis when it is about to fly off. Inside, you get a feeling of intimacy and warmth, but the outside is exciting. We experienced a mix of physical and visual sensations, of peace and serenity. The movement felt gentle, with slow rolling and pitching rather than sudden jolts, caressing your body. There was a steady patter of rain on the deck and the cockpit glass; the engine’s hum and the murmur of the sea became background noise. The air was cold and damp, with a salty taste intensified by the rain.
The main deck is designed as a seamless open space to promote socialising between indoor and outdoor areas and ensure full connection with the surrounding environment. This is highlighted by the large windows that open at the stern and on the port side, allowing guests to enjoy the sea breeze and natural light from inside.
The main saloon is furnished with soft, comfortable sofas, tables made from fine materials and a dining area that seats up to ten people. The large panoramic windows bring the sea inside, transforming the light and colours of the outside world into an integral part of the environment. Here, every moment – from breakfast to sunset, from a formal meeting to an informal cocktail party – becomes an experience of life on board. In the living and dining area, the concept of soft lines is reinforced in every element: from the ceiling to the windows to the furnishings, everything contributes to making guests feel welcome.
Closer to shore, there was also the aroma of Mediterranean scrub and Sorrento lemons. The outline of Capri, the coastline, and Vesuvius faded into the haze; the colours softened and took on a silvery hue, almost like something from a film. The wet teak was slick and fragrant; the surfaces became slippery, so caution was needed when moving around. And that is precisely what I, the skipper and the other Arcadia team members did. We sailed back and forth at every possible speed, comfortably exceeding 21 knots. The Volvo Penta IPS 1350 system ensured we moved very quietly. The absence of a shaft line transmission and stabilisation provided by CMC Marine electric blades makes it comfortable, reducing vibrations and delivering easy manoeuvring, making the on-board experience safe and relaxing. The fuel consumption figures are very interesting, with scarcely 13.8 litres per nautical mile used at sixteen knots. The big steering wheel isn’t just a stylistic whim; it is the symbol of a different approach to yachting. The A80new is a new milestone in the journey of the Arcadia Yachts yard: it is a project that conveys a concept of all-round well-being, focused on the freedom to explore unpolluted bays and to anchor anywhere. Being under 24 metres long is an opportunity rather than a restriction: respecting the rules for the protection of meadows of Mediterranean tapeweed means you can use the water toys and on-board sports equipment to discover hidden locations, secret coves and unpolluted sea bottoms. The boat thus becomes a tool for delicate exploration, combining the pleasure of sailing with respect for the environment.
A design featuring a raised pilot house is a first for the yard, yet the A80new retains all the personality and shapes that have made the brand both well-known and recognisable. The wide body shape at the front opens up the volumes of the ‘master quarter’, but does so naturally and not forcibly. Below decks, it is light and spacious, thanks to windows extending along the main deck up to the aft deck. The up-and-down stern platform, perfectly integrated, provides quick and safe access to the water, while the extendible side wings on the aft deck increase space, making the outdoors a true extension of indoor living. The interiors confirm the degree to which the Arcadia design project is focused on real, day-to-day wellbeing. The materials are warm and natural, from neutral wood tones to soft fabrics, with leather details that convey solidity and are welcoming. Natural light is abundant, while the adjustable LED illumination lets you create atmospheres that are more intimate or more sociable, depending on the time of day. Each room conveys a feeling of calm, order and harmony, without ostentation.
The upper deck, which covers an impressive 80 m², provides ample space for movement and flexible use. The stern area can be furnished with loose seating, the lounge area under the hardtop can be adapted as desired, and the second external helm station is seamlessly integrated without disturbing the guest zones. The outdoor bow area is also designed to be versatile, featuring a sun deck and table, creating a convivial yet discreet space. Here, moving around means choosing your own corner, enjoying the sun, the breeze, and the sea view.
The master cabin on the main deck has a breathtaking view over the water, with clean lines and a warm colour palette that creates an intimate atmosphere with strong character. The king-size bed fits into a niche in the bulkhead, reinforcing the impression of a protected space, further enhanced by warm, diffuse lighting. Here too, there is a complete feeling of continuity with the exterior, thanks to the large windows that offer a constant connection with the sea. The VIP and guest cabins have clearly benefitted from the same attention to detail at the design stage: centred beds, rational storage, well-designed lighting and warm colours deliver a sense of comfort, privacy and confidentiality. Every detail has been studied with the aim of long stays, without any concessions when it comes to wellness. It is a hospitality that is functional, refined and never ostentatious.
Artificial lighting is based on dimmable LED lights, which offer
more natural brightness, consume less energy
and create different atmospheres.
The layout of the crew quarters is also sensible: four people in two double cabins with en-suite bathrooms, access straight from the kitchen, and a large day area separate from guest areas. Service management is efficient and discreet, respecting privacy. The multi-functional garage, which can house a tender, toys, and sports equipment, rounds off the boat without sacrificing any interior space.
But the most striking feature is the overall feeling of harmony: the A80new is a yacht designed to be experienced. From the main to the upper deck, from the communal areas to the master cabin, everything encourages you to stop for a moment, to take a deep breath and to look around you. The feeling you get is of active slowness: you can move, explore, swim, use the water toys or just relax in the sun, without ever losing the feeling of connection with the water and the nature around you.
Access to the sea is immediate thanks to the stern beach with a perfectly integrated up&down platform.
// True to Arcadia’s DNA, A80new incorporates the most advanced solutions for environmental sustainability, including
