YYachts launches 90-foot Custom Design

YYachts new 90-foot was designed by Bill Tripp with an interior by Andrew Winch. One of the biggest sailing yachts ever built in Germany, the new addition to the Custom Division is now sailing for final sea trials.

The Greifswald shipyard continues its successful cooperation with Bill Tripp. The Custom Division 90-foot carbon slup came from the drawing board of the US designer. One of the biggest sailing yachts ever built in Germany, the yacht has been ordered by an American customer. However, before she sails with her new owner, the yacht will undergo intensive testing on the Baltic Sea near Greifswald, with the supervision of Bill Tripp himself: “The yacht sails exceptionally well. Together with Michael Schmidt Yachtbau, we have set a standard here that others first have to achieve” the designer commented.

London-based studio Winch Design signed the interior design of the Tripp 90. The spacious interior is minimalist and open-plan, benefiting from plenty of natural light. The style draws inspiration from the U.S. East Coast and mid-century Scandinavian influences, as well as soft leather and light oak wood.

The goal in the development of the Tripp 90 was a competitive performance on the regatta circuit, combined with comfortable sailing behaviour. This is achieved through YYachts’ customary consistent weight saving in the construction and finishing of the yacht: the Tripp 90’s hull, deck, internal structure and rigging are made of carbon.

Thanks to its configuration, the yacht can be comfortably operated by three sailors; thrusters provide support during manoeuvres in narrow marinas.

The glazed deck saloon allows being in contact with the sea while flooding the interior with daylight. It was also close to the owner’s heart to use materials that were produced sustainably.

Dirk Zademack, Managing Director of YYachts, says: “With Bill Tripp, we are cooperating with one of the best naval architects in the world. To implement the Tripp 90 with him after the Y7 solidifies our collaboration, which will be followed by another example very soon.”

The Tripp 90 is another yacht being built in the Custom Division of the Greifswald shipyard. Previously, the yard built the 22-meter “Eugen Seibold,” an innovative research vessel for the Swiss Werner Siemens Foundation.

The Tripp 90 will make her world debut at the Cannes Yachting Festival in September.
