Nautor’s has launched a 30-metre boat in its Maxi range, designed by German Frers and with interiors by Misa Poggi. Three models are being built at the same time, with the other two Swan 98s due to be completed in the next few months

THE DISTINCTIVE ELEMENTS THAT HAVE ALWAYS SET THE FINNISH SHIPYARD’S BOATS APART – excellent build quality, fine materials and a top-notch design by German Frers – are all on display in the 98, three of which were sold before the design had even left the drawing board. The first was launched in July, and the other two are already under construction, all in Pietarsaari’s recently refurbished headquarters in Finland, where dozens and dozens of employees are working on each new boat.
The build quality stems not only from the expert staff and the boat’s structure, but also from the choice of materials: the hull and deck are made from pre-preg carbon fibre, which gives rigidity to the structure and keeps the weight low. Indeed, the displacement is under 64 tonnes, not bad for a hull of just under 30 metres long. This new Swan 98 joins the 120 in the shipyard’s Maxi line. Going down in size, there are also the Swan Yachts boats, ranging from 48 to 78 feet, and the ClubSwan 36, 50 and 125. Frers’ latest model maintains Swan’s typical family feel.
The Swan 98 stems from a philosophy of allowing owners to choose bespoke solutions to meet their needs, whether that be comfortable cruising, ocean voyages or racing in regattas.
Although the boats are instantly recognisable, with no need to write the brand on the stern or the sides, no two are ever the same. They are genuine semi-custom models, with a huge number of optional extras in the sail plan, on deck and especially when it comes to the layout of the interiors. Buyers can choose where to place the owner’s cabin, which is paired with three guest cabins as well as space for the captain and crew.
The interior design, curated by Misa Poggi, is available in four different moods: Timeless Classic, Traditional Navy, Wine Cowes and Spirit of Finland. The waterlines promise good sailing performance, and the spaces on board are designed for cruising in comfort, because, like all Swans, this one is built for sailing all over the world. At the stern, as well as a large bathing platform, there is also room for a garage to house a four-metre tender.
Both the hull and deck are built using interior and exterior pre-preg carbon fibre skins with epoxy resin on a Corecell foam core. This provides the utmost structural rigidity and reduces the weight, while also guaranteeing the boat’s structural safety and reliability.
