Simrad Marine Electronics, a leading marine electronics and navigation company, has lifted the curtain on the new HALO 5000, the first IMO-approved solid-state radar for the commercial market. In fact, this launch represents a breakthrough in radar technology. Designed to offer an unprecedented level of situational awareness to commercial vessels, Halo 5000 reduces operational costs and provides flexible installation.
“We are excited to introduce HALO 5000, our revolutionary, IMO-approved solid-state radar for the commercial sector,” said Massimo Carmagnini, product manager, Digital Systems at Navico Group. “Developed with the goal of ensuring user safety even in the most challenging environments, the new radar offers outstanding situational awareness combined with broad compatibility and ease of installation. Our team is proud to present a state-of-the-art product that any commercial vessel can rely on.”
The HALO 5000 features 130 W pulse compression, ensuring excellent visibility in all conditions. The revolutionary Target Tracking allows users to automatically monitor thousands of radar targets within a 24-nautical-mile zone, simultaneously displaying up to 100 of these targets on the screen. In addition, the new radar includes an adapted transmission pulse burst scheme, an advanced performance monitoring device, and advanced technical manuals that enable it to meet and exceed IMO requirements.
Efficiency and savings
As a solid-state radar sensor, it has a significantly lower cost of ownership than conventional magnetron radars. The compact, state-of-the-art design, together with simplified connectors, ensures reliability, availability and maintainability throughout its lifetime.
Compatibility and installation
The radar offers broad compatibility due to its modular design, which fits seamlessly into existing Simrad® R5000 systems with full IMO/SOLAS compliance. Moreover, simplified connectors and a thin, pre-wired power and Ethernet cable offer easy and low-cost future installation and maintenance.
Also, for the first time, the HALO 5000 is available with 4- and 6-foot antennas, offering a choice of 22 or 44 RPM with 24 VDC or 230VAC power supply. The HALO 5000 will be sold as part of the R5000 radar system product line.
