Quick MC² Seacentric System, 360-degree stabilisation

Quick presented MC² Seacentric System, a stabilisation system including the fin stabilizer Viator, interceptor trim tab Intercepta and the Quick Gyro, a gyroscopic stabiliser with a horizontal axis and natural dissipation

by Massimo Longoni

The need for 360° stabilization, both at anchor and underway, is of utmost importance for modern shipowners. On-board comfort is a must that no one is willing to sacrifice. To satisfy this need, Quick has presented a stabilisation system consisting of the fin stabilizer Viator, interceptor trim tab Intercepta and the Quick Gyro, a gyroscopic stabiliser with a horizontal axis and natural dissipation. Viator, Intercepta and Quick Gyro are three highly efficient products operating in stand-alone mode, which, if installed together, have the potential to entirely revolutionise the way we experience the sea.

INTERCEPTA is a completely plug & play and fully active system. The central unit reads and predicts the dynamics of the boat in order to coordinate the movement of the trim tab based on the sea and navigation conditions.

INTERCEPTA
Interceptor trim tabs
Plug and play system
• Active stabilization system
• 10-30V power supply
• Integrated electric actuator
• Easy installation
• Easier turn
• Less fuel consumption

THE INTERCEPTA RANGE CONSISTS OF FIVE MODELS: IN30, IN45, IN60, IN75, AND IN100 FOR BOATS FROM 20’ TO 130’, AND MULTIPLE INSTALLATIONS OF UP TO SIX UNITS
ARE POSSIBLE.

The stabilisation of transverse oscillatory movements (roll) obtained thanks to the Quick Gyro stabiliser is enhanced on the one hand by the action of Viator fins, and on the other hand, it is supplemented by the stabilisation of longitudinal oscillatory movements (pitch) obtained using the interceptor trim tab Intercepta. The integration between these systems ensures greater stabilization effectiveness, and system optimization by improving the boat’s steering, consumption, and dynamics thus an improved onboard comfort.

«MC² Seacentric System is the first step for Quick in a new journey, partly initiated with Quick Gyro in 2017, a journey with clear milestones and big news for the future. We have a very ambitious goal: to become the benchmark not only in the field of stabilisation but also in technologically advanced,
high value-added systems with an important software component».
Michele Marzucco

Michele Marzucco, CEO of Quick, stated: «We have been working hard to offer a unique integrated system that could satisfy the needs of every shipowner. For the first time in international boating, the same company has designed and produced gyro stabilizers, fins, and interceptors which are extremely performing in stand-alone mode but even more performing if installed together on the same boat, taking advantage of the different dynamic responses of the systems for an unprecedented stabilization concept».

MC² Quick Gyro stabilisers, Viator fins and interceptor trim tabs by Intercepta are monitored remotely via a 5-inch touch panel.

The highly efficient Viator fins, which present a compact design, are composed of a control unit that analyses and predicts the dynamics of the boat to change the stabilization algorithms and adapt them to the different situations at sea. They are powered by high-efficiency synchronous electric motors which are extremely compact and silent. The system composed of the fin and the motor provides a shaftless assembly for increased safety in case of collision.

THE VIATOR FINS RANGE IS DECLINED INTO FIVE MODELS: VT700 (FOR BOATS FROM 50’ TO 65’), VT900 (FOR BOATS FROM 60’ TO 80’); VT1200
(FOR BOATS FROM 70’ TO 100’), VT1700 (FOR BOATS FROM 85’ TO 120’) AND VT2000
(FOR BOATS FROM 100’
TO 145’).

VIATOR
Anti-roll Fin Stabilisers
Compact design
360° rotation
• Easy installation
Active stabilisation at anchor and at full speed
• Safety feature in case of impact with floating bodies

VIATOR is composed of a control unit that analyzes and predicts the dynamics of the boat, in order to modify the stabilization algorithms to adapt them to different situations. The fins are powered by highly efficient, extremely compact and silent electric motors.

The design of Viator carbon fins was improved through a fluid dynamics simulation study to reduce the boat speed as little as possible. Thanks to this engineering process, Viator is highly performing compared to its competitors: with the same size of the fin, it can stabilise larger boats. The interceptor trim tab Intercepta is a completely plug&play system working thanks to the central unit that reads and anticipates the dynamics of the boat, coordinating the active movement of the trim tab based on sea and navigation conditions.

QUICK GYRO
Anti-Roll Gyro Stabilizers
Benefits
• Compact and Powerful
• Super fast spool up
• Easy installation
• Lower maintenance
• Silent
Natural Dissipation

THE QUICK GYRO RANGE IS MADE UP OF 17 MODELS TO MEET THE NEEDS OF BOATS FROM 10 TO 30 METRES
IN LENGTH.

Intercepta is powered by a 10-30V motor and engineered to provide a completely integrated electric actuator and easy installation on every transom. Apart from softening pitch during sailing, Intercepta, signed by Quick, have the function to improve the boat’s performance, fuel consumption and dynamics while changing direction. The integration of Viator and Intercepta with Quick Gyro, thanks to proprietary software, optimizes the active algorithms that coordinate the single systems including several benefits: static and dynamic stabilization both at sea and at anchor; a more efficient stabilization obtained with an algorithm developed to exploit the different dynamic responses of the three systems considering their respective strengths; the possibility to install smaller systems by adding the torque developed by each device compared to stand-alone systems that do not communicate with each other; greater efficiency in hydrodynamic performance, weight distribution and, more in general, reduced consumptions.
