The 55 Open Sunreef Power combines elegance in the water with cutting-edge design and highly promising performance thanks to the hybrid propulsion

by Massimo Longoni

Sunreef has presented a new 55-feet engine-driven catamaran with a 30-feet maximum beam. The 55 Open Sunreef Power is powered by a hybrid system. Designed to offer speed, stability and limited consumption, also thanks to the solar panels that cover the entire hard-top surface, it is a yacht with a sporty and particularly dynamic design. With large hull windows, it has a glass superstructure and an inverted windshield.

The boat’s distinctive traits include an enormous semi-open lounge and a large walk-around deck with two foldable platforms aft. The engine-driven yacht is perfect for trips of one to two nights, from Miami to the Bahamas, or from Ponza to the Aeolian islands, and will be built in Sunreef’s new shipyard in the United Arab Emirates.

The large open cockpit, which can also be closed by a bay window, offers two sunbathing areas and a beach area equipped with a submersible bathing platform. The back of the bulwarks tilts to expand the seating area. The bow offers two L-shaped benches on each side, one with a coffee table, and the other with a dining table. In the wheelhouse, a wet bar with a refrigerator and ice maker is located right next to the central steering position, which has a double seat. Two side windows in the cockpit allow you to reach the gangways quickly and easily.

Building on the green heritage of previous models, the boat is equipped with fully-integrated solar panels in the hull made in composite material, as well as light batteries for cleaner and more efficient sailing. In addition, it will be finished in a variety of responsibly sourced or recycled materials.

The foredeck offers a large sunbathing area for 3 people. Various interior layouts are possible depending on the owner’s needs. The layout below the bridge can offer either 4 guest cabins and two bathrooms with showers, or 3 guest cabins, two bathrooms with showers, and one cabin with a single bed and toilet. Another option is 1 master cabin on the port side with a bathroom, 1 guest cabin on the starboard side with a bathroom, and 1 cabin with a single bed and toilet.

A crew cabin and a large storage space are positioned at the rear of the hulls. As far as the motorization is concerned, the yard has chosen not to reveal any further details, but it has officially announced a hybrid engine.  The new model will be built in Dubai, in Sunreef’s new shipyard.
