Whenever you hear the name Pershing, a high-performance, sporty, powerful, slender and no-frills yacht springs to mind. 6X perfectly embodies all of this and throws its personality into the mix
by Mariateresa Campolongo
The Pershing 6X, 18.94 m long and 4.80 m wide, stems from the creative genius of Fulvio De Simoni, the legendary designer who has created all the shipyard’s boats. As soon as you climb on board, everything feels like it is in the right place, perfectly designed and built to guarantee you a fun and adrenaline-fuelled cruise. The first impression you get, once you are past the stainless-steel gate bearing the inscription 6X, is that you really are on a boat. The yacht matches the style and look of the shipyard’s other models: you can recognise a Pershing from quite some distance.
The multipurpose soft-touch carbon fibre and teak table in the cockpit can house up to six people for lunch. As well as an L-shaped sofa, this area also contains a mobile bar with a recessed sink on the starboard side. The entrance to the crew quarters is located beneath a chair.
The exterior design reflects the yacht’s racing spirit, with the top speed approaching 48 knots and a cruising speed of 42 knots. As well as reducing the boat’s overall weight, carbon fibre trim helps to give the impression of a high-performance craft.
The Pershing 6X is a compact yacht, and everything is integrated, such as the line dividing the windows of the superstructure which becomes a useful handrail for walking across the deck. The boat’s aerodynamic profile includes large openings that allow natural light to enter, creating a close connection between the interior and exterior. The windows are therefore a major architectural feature, making the indoor spaces feel very bright and airy and ensuring they fit perfectly into the natural surroundings. Very generous outdoor spaces have been incorporated into the Pershing 6X for relaxing when the boat is still or for an adrenaline rush when the yacht is moving at a fast pace.
The fully retractable sliding door, openable roof and large side windows make the lounge feel connected to the outdoors. The large C-shaped sofa is upholstered with a series of alternating leathers of different colours and finishes from the Mastrotto Group and sits opposite a TV cabinet and storage unit.
At the forward end of the main deck, you can stretch out on mattresses or two chaise longues with reclinable and adjustable backs, while at the stern you can relax on the sunbed, which can be extended by moving the back of the sofa. The sunbed is framed by a spoiler, both providing shelter and recalling a sporty supercar.
The cockpit can house up to six people for a meal in the shade of the superstructure around a beautiful multi-purpose telescopic table made of soft-touch carbon fibre and teak, which can slide and be extended to double the size. The table’s extremely clean look stems in part from the lack of hinges. This area is well equipped with a mobile bar and recessed sink on the starboard side, with an icemaker, grill and fridge available on request.
Like all Pershing boats, although the lounge is an indoor space, the fully retractable sliding door, openable roof and large side windows make you feel like you are outdoors. The main table is designed to seat six and, like the cockpit table, the height can be adjusted and the top can be extended.
The interior design is based expertly on contrasting hues (for example dark planking and light-coloured ceilings) and materials (such as alternating wood and leather). Attention to detail is clear everywhere, for example in the sofa, which is upholstered with a series of alternating leathers of different colours and finishes from the Mastrotto Group. The helm station provides a focal point in the lounge, with two Poltrona Frau ‘Interiors in Motion’ chairs that perfectly match their surroundings.
Going below deck, the first area you reach is the galley, a well-designed space with plenty of light coming from the opening in the ceiling above and the porthole in the wall opposite. Pershing 6X offers the option of a layout for the American market, with two cabins and a living room, or one with three cabins, like the first version we were shown.
In the amidships master suite on the lower deck, five steps down from the galley, the bed head immediately catches your eye with its playful combination of Zimmer + Rohde Tide wallpaper panels and sheet-metal inserts, with matching light strips on the ceiling. Mastrotto Group leather cushions recall the design of the sofa on the main deck. The full-beam suite makes excellent use of space: the bathroom is on the starboard side, divided into three areas by sliding doors; a rectangular window on the opposite side floods the space with natural light.
The VIP cabin in the bow with en-suite bathroom makes the most of the shape of the hull, with the bed at a 45° angle, a clever solution that makes optimal use of space and creates a room of similar size to the owner’s cabin. The third cabin is a twin room with an ensuite that doubles as a day toilet. Like the rest of the yacht, all the cabins feature sophisticated contrasting materials and hues.
Engine room
The test model was powered by a pair of 1,550 hp MAN V12 engines and Top System transmission with surface-drive propellers, which means it can do 48.3 knots.
