The ONJ shipyard is on the Vecht river at Weesp, about 20 kilometres south east of Amsterdam, accompanied by Roel F. van Olst, the friendly owner of the shipyard, we tested the Pilot ONJ 920, which is also available in an open version.
The design is classical, with comfortable interiors and as one climbs on board, the feeling is of stability and comfort.
A timeless boat, in which the use of excellent quality wood prevails. This length is between the existing 7.70 and 10.20 and was chosen to optimise length/power and quality/price ratios.
Propulsion is provided by a straight-shaft propeller 260 hp engine, which creates top speeds of 20 knots. The cockpit is welcoming and spacious with external steering.
The interior has an L-shaped saloon with a table on the left and a kitchenette on the right. Beyond the lounge there is the internal helm station and a door leading to the cabin.
Moving from cockpit to bow is easy and safe. The ONJ 920 is pleasant to sail: it responds well and visibility is good.
