Mercury Marine introduces the Mercury Avator 7.5e electric outboard at the Consumer Electronics Show 2023 in Las Vegas. Designed for small boats, Avator is another Mercury step toward sustainability is the first in a series of electric outboards to be released in 2023.
Mercury also plans to unveil concepts of its Avator 20e and 35e outboards, which will be marketed later in 2023.
As stated by Mercury Marine President Chris Drees, Mercury intends to maintain its status as a leader in innovation in both internal combustion products and electric propulsion. Added to this is the company’s desire to make boating more affordable and environmentally sustainable.
To get an idea of the power output, Mercury said the Avator 7.5e outboard generates 750W and produces similar speed and acceleration to a Mercury 3.5hp FourStroke outboard. This makes it ideal on small boats, including tenders, jon boats, inflatable boats and kayaks.
Ease of use
Jumping out at you is the easy mounting and quick-attach coupled with intuitive controls. The color display keeps track of battery level and range, thanks to the lithium-ion battery system design. The 1 kWh battery was developed in collaboration with Mastervolt and designed exclusively for the marine segment. A 48 V power source that ounts on socurity and reliability, drop tested and IP67 rated for water resistance. In addition, the chargers constantly monitor voltage and current and can shut down to protect the battery in case of problems.
Transverse flux motor technology (also increasingly used in the super and hypercar worlds), promises power and noise at a minimum. The engine generates high torque with little effort, maximizing battery life and range and contributing to faster acceleration.
Also, with Avator, Mercury’s commitment to a positive impact on the environment continues. Ban on exhaust fumes and direct emissions. This also means recycled or reusable components.
The Avator 7.5e electric outboard is the first Mercury propulsion system to be compatible with the new Mercury Marine app, available for iOS® and Android™ devices. Boaters here will find a library of tutorials and the ability to connect with a preferred dealer for expert assistance.

Adding a Mercury SmartCraft® Connect module to the outboard unlocks the app’s advanced features. These include a GPS map for planning trips and displaying range estimates to explore with confidence. The app can also be used to monitor speed, battery level, outboard hours of operation and system notifications.
