Two-time Formula 1 champion Fernando Alonso got to try out the Sunreef 80 Ecosail electric catamaran during a summer vacation in Mykonos. Here is the video released by Sunreef Yachts, along with the motorsport star’s impressions during the cruise.
Fernando Alonso commissioned a 60 Sunreef Power Eco electric catamaran from Sunreef Yachts last year. Currently under construction in Gdansk, Poland, his custom sustainable motor yacht will be equipped with electric motors and the shipyard’s patented photovoltaic system.
Earlier this year, Fernando Alonso explained his decision to build with Sunreef Yachts during the shipyard’s press conference at the Cannes Yachting Festival: “Sunreef Yachts was an easy choice for me. They combine luxury and sustainability like no other shipyard. When I visited their factory in Poland, I saw firsthand how all the details are taken care of. This is what luxury eco yachting should be.”
Reflecting on his vacation in Mykonos aboard the Sunreef 80 Eco, he explained his motivations and his journey toward building his electric yacht:
“My life goes very fast. I travel all over the world a lot. Once on the track, it’s all about speed again. When I enjoy my free time, I want the exact opposite. I want to travel in total silence, without fumes, without vibrations.”
