CRN Rio 62 meters, an explosion of vivacity

Totally custom made, Rio is a luxury megayacht made by CRN, the historic Ancona shipyard and a brand which belongs to the Ferretti Group

by Mariateresa Campolongo

A tropical feel, a festive mood and an explosion of vivacity and colour all spring to mind when one hears the word, Rio. And indeed, the name is a foretaste of everything that we find on board the latest megayacht launched by the CRN yard, a luxury 62-metre yacht that has been completely custom-made to the owner’s requirements. The steel hull and aluminium superstructure enclose volumes where CRN’s craftsmanship, design and construction quality give shape to a floating work of art.

The bespoke furniture is by Zago S.p.A., which is part of the Ferretti Group and was founded over a century ago as a small carpentry workshop but is now a confirmed presence in the sector. The cocktail bar at the entrance of the main deck is an element which helps to tie together the interior and the exterior.

The yard, which partnered with Omega Architects (for the exteriors) and the Pulina Exclusive Interiors studio, has created a unique megayacht, which brings together clear elegance with a dynamic and sporty personality. The exterior lines are sleek and streamlined, with a nearly vertical bow. The outline of the main deck has been harmonised by characteristic arches, created by the yacht designer Frank Laupman, which protect the deck and ensure privacy, as well as delivering magnificent views to either side and over the stern. The large windows balance out the white of the hull and superstructure of the exteriors; they allow evocative reflections inside the boat and provide direct contact with the sea, like both an impression and a functional fusion of the indoors and the outdoors.

Owners have their deck, with around 323 square metres for their exclusive use. The suite is an oasis of privacy, with a 180-degree window that gives an incredible view over the sea. The master bathroom is made from precious materials, with Calacatta Vagli Oro marble on the walls and Crema d’Orcia marble flooring. It features a spectacular bath alongside the windows, so you can enjoy the view while soaking.

Rio is laid out across four decks, and can easily take up to twelve guests in the owner’s suite and five guest cabins – two VIP rooms and three suites – on the lower deck. This mega yacht is a tribute to the pleasure of life on board: the very fluid layout joins together the numerous living areas, both inside and out, because of the clever distribution and optimisation of the room available. All of the open-air usable areas have been designed to be multifunctional, for both individual relaxation and socialising, and somewhere to spend unforgettable times en plein air. Amongst them one that stands out is the lounge going forward on the owner’s deck, with a large spa-pool-sun pad area that can also be used for fitness or poolside parties; the luminous al fresco dining area aft of the owner’s deck; the lounge/wellness area with numerous water toys in the beach club and the enormous spa-pool and cinema in the aft section of the wheelhouse deck, which is the highest of the four and boasts incredible sea views.

There are three hand-painted works of art on the walls of the lobby, which is the antechamber to the owner’s suite. They were commissioned under input from the buyers, who wanted a customised design based on a jungle inhabited by brightly coloured tropical animals.

But where you see that the name of the boat and the project coincide is unquestionably in the interiors: because of a specific request from the owner, the design has a tropical flavour, especially for the youngest members of the family for whom he wanted well-lit areas with a happy atmosphere that was full of colour. The lightness of the white tones, the pure lines and the natural materials are lit up by strokes of colour that are cleverly combined with lively and exotic decorations which take inspiration from vibrant themes.

RIO IS 62 METRES LONG AND HAS FOUR DECKS. IT CAN HOST UP TO TWELVE PEOPLE, BETWEEN THE MASTER SUITE AND FIVE GUEST CABINS. THERE ARE ALSO NINE CABINS FOR THE 15 CREW MEMBERS.

The prevailing use of sea colours, such as turquoise pastel and the different shades of blue, for the finishings, furniture and textiles harmonise with the white of the walls and makes the interior completely integrated with the surrounding marine environment. Lively blue and fuchsia shades, or green and grey, characterise each of the decks and give brio to the interior design. The flooring and bulkheads are American walnut and slatted, lacquered white oak respectively: all of which come together to create a natural and luminous environment.

The main lounge is an extremely luminous room thanks to the numerous full-height windows and the colour palettes used, in which white predominates. The whole project is centred on this close connection between indoors and outdoors.

ALL OF THE DECKS ARE FULL OF PERSONALITY, WITH FINISHING THAT GOES RIGHT DOWN TO THE SMALLEST DETAIL, AND CUSTOM-MADE WORKS OF ART; EXQUISITE WALLPAPER AND JUNGLE-STYLE DECORATIONS GIVE AN EXTREMELY DYNAMIC, JOYFUL AND FUN EFFECT.

The careful selection of every single kind of marble has also played a fundamental role in the interior design project: the Crema d’Orcia and Calacatta Vagli Oro marbles reflect the paler tomes that predominate in the bathrooms; the Azul Macauba gives colourful touches in the blue tones in the lounges, while the Irish Green enlivens the external cocktail bars with sea-themed colour combinations.

The beach club is a multi-functional lounge area that looks straight onto the sea and is fitted out with numerous water toys for aquatic sports. The area gets additional lighting from the four skylights set into the floor of the main deck.

The custom-made works of art give character to all of the decks; high-quality wallpaper and jungle-style décor, like the panels that were specially hand painted for the owner’s lobby, bring an explosion of vivacity and joyThe main deck perfectly integrates interiors and exteriors allowing a sense of continuity and openness. The main lounge, with a cocktail bar at its entrance, is a multi-functional area which can be used as an area for socialising or dining and is full of light thanks to the full-height windows which also provide spectacular, panoramic sea views. Here reigns the white of the lacquered oak on the walls, alternating with beautiful cotton wallpaper, again in white tints, surrounded by refined lacquered profiling in turquoise pastel shades.

RIO WAS DESIGNED AND BUILT BY CRN, IN CLOSE COLLABORATION WITH OMEGA ARCHITECTS (FOR THE EXTERIORS) AND PULINA EXCLUSIVE INTERIORS.

The pieces of white furniture, which are set alongside elements in various shades of blue, and the very colourful customised works of jungle-themed art hanging on the wall create a dynamic and sunny atmosphere. But one’s attention is drawn by a part of the noted work by Wassily Kandinsky, ‘Both Striped’ (Beide gestreift), which is on the end bulkhead, and brings a touch of vivid colour to the room. Going forward on the main deck, the full-beam VIP cabin can be considered a second owner’s suite.

Thanks to two CAT 3512C ACERT engines of 1,230kW, Rio can reach a maximum speed of 15.8 knots. The cockpit is a lounge area fitted out with furniture from contemporary Italian brands, with a colour palette that interacts with natural elements to create something unique with a tropical atmosphere.

THE BEACH CLUB HAS A WELLNESS AREA, WITH A HAMMAM
AND SHOWER, AND A LOUNGE WITH FUN, COLOURFUL FLOATING POUFFES
IN THE SHAPE OF STARFISHES.

The owner has a full 323 square metres available for their exclusive use on their deck, with an al fresco dining room linked to the sky lounge, which goes well with the colour choices in the main lounge. The painting here is a reproduction of Vincent van Gogh’s Iriseswhich takes up on the nuances used in the interiors. The owner’s suite in the bow is a refined oasis of privacy, with large spaces and a 180-degree window that brings out the unequalled views over the sea.
