Clive Christian is a british perfume brand renowned for its exceptional craftsmanship and sophisticated, complex fragrances which are extremely pleasant to wear and offer a remarkable olfactory experience

Clive Christian’s production is the result of a century and a half of history, culture and hard work. The Maison’s origins go back to 1872 when William Sparks Thomson founded the Crown Perfumery Company. Already known for his soaps and scented salts, which were in great demand among the elite of the time, he specialised in producing sophisticated perfumes. His most loyal customers were aristocrats and royalty, the most famous of whom were Queen Victoria and her husband, Prince Albert. They were the first to recognise the value of his creations in the late 1930s: on the eve of their marriage, they commissioned a perfume to symbolise their love and royal union… and naturally, Thomson created one for them based on orange blossom, the Queen’s favourite scent. Her appreciation of the fragrance was so great that when her husband died, Queen Victoria granted the Crown Perfumery Company the honour of using the Crown emblem on the bottle cap indefinitely: a privilege granted to a select few and confirmation of the complex quality of Thomson’s fragrances, proof of trust so great that it defines the delicate link between his fragrances and the love story between a king and a queen.
Imperial Majesty was produced in only 10 pieces and sold in a Baccarat crystal bottle with an 18-carat gold collar and a brilliant-cut diamond in the cap. Famous for holding the Guinness World Record for ‘most expensive perfume in the world’, it is a triumph of olfactory complexity and a pure celebration of uncompromising luxury.
In 1999, Clive Christian, a renowned British luxury interior designer, acquired the company and began to write a new chapter in its beautiful story, giving the company’s distinctive heritage a more modern touch under a new name: Clive Christian Perfume. The fragrances were enriched with ever more precious and rare ingredients, to continue to offer products of exquisite quality and prestige. This goal was achieved with creations that became famous throughout the world, such as Clive Christian No.1, Passant Guardant and Imperial Majesty.
The value of craftsmanship was recognised in 2001 when the Royal College of Arms awarded Clive Christian Limited the Coat of Arms, a prestigious accolade that recognises the brand’s creative spirit and commitment to the highest standards of British luxury and craftsmanship.
Clive Christian’s Collections
The Clive Christian project is divided into several collections. Among them is the Crown Collection, which preserves the most exquisite traditional fragrances from the XIX century and their iconic and timeless scents. The Original Collection represents the beginning of Clive Christian’s journey and, since 1999, has remained faithful to the most classic canons of his production. The Noble Collection explores specific themes and evokes the cultural value of British history and its aristocracy, drawing inspiration from the ingredients, colours and lifestyles of the period. The fragrant range continues with the bouquet of emotions offered by the Private Collection, which is inspired by the encounters of the Maison’s evolution and reinterprets them in a graceful, private and intimate story: a tribute to Victorian Britain and its love of all things elegant and rare. Finally, the Addictive Arts collection is the most innovative and daring, inspired by the great works of world literature and exploring intense emotions using innovative technologies and the most refined raw materials.
To celebrate the 150th anniversary of the birth of the Crown Perfumery Company, Clive Christian Perfume has launched two new limited-edition fragrances, Contemporary and Timeless: a hymn to the art of true perfumery and a testimony to the precious link between past and present.
Its olfactory compositions offer a profound and unforgettable experience, exploring the unexplored frontiers of fragrance. There is also a line of products called Absolutes, dedicated to 100% pure fragrance oils that stay on the skin for up to 12 hours. The power of a Clive Christian perfume lies in its key values, which are personality, concentration and complexity, which are fundamental in this industry and which, for a fragrance, mean greater durability and a longer and more personal journey on the skin of those who choose to wear it. This is what experts call a “multi-layered olfactory composition”, which, combined with the so-called “long sillage”, ensures a long-lasting fragrance that changes gradually, with top, heart and base notes emerging at different times. It is not surprising that Clive Christian’s fragrances are unforgettable to anyone who tries them. It takes great skill for a master perfumer to know how to blend a wide variety of ingredients in perfect harmony, and this fascinating brand undoubtedly draws on the expertise of some of the most skilled perfumers in the world.
A passion for manufacturing, combined with an appreciation and respect for the historic tradition of the Crown Perfumery Company and a clear vision of the future, is undoubtedly the formula that has allowed the Maison to celebrate its first 150 years with great satisfaction. “The extraordinary feeling of being on the crest of a wave, beyond time and fashion, lies in the constant search for perfection and the innovation of our olfactory journeys. This is the true secret of Clive Christian: at once timeless and contemporary, always looking for new ways to explore”, says Dino Pace, CEO and founder of Nichebox – the current holding company. The Clive Christian fragrance range remains one of the most refined in the world, with a subtle ability to reinterpret emotions in perfume.
