With a length of 37.83 meters and a maximum beam of 8.85 meters, RSY 38m Explorer will be delivered in 2021. It is a project of Hydro Tec by Sergio Cutolo.
The “placing of the coin “under the keel is a ceremony that officially marks the first phase of the construction of a ship. For the RSY 38m Explorer, it was held last Thursday at the Ravenna shipyard of Rosetti Superyachts. “This is a first important step for this growing project, which gives value to an even bigger one, that of Rosetti Superyachts, in which I have believed strongly since its birth” comments Fulvio Dodich, partner and CEO of Rosetti Superyachts. “I am proud to be able to attend this ceremony together with my team and those who have given us their trust.”
It is interesting to remember that on sailing ships, during the construction phase, it was common to insert some silver coins at the base of the mainmast. This ancient custom derived from the traditional laying of coins in the eyes or in the mouths of the deceased so that – once in the reign of the Dead – they would have paid for the passage to Charon on the river Styx. Tradition still lives on today to feed the well-known superstition of sailors during the ceremony in the yard for the laying of the keel: in one of its recesses are welded one or more coins that will be, according to the belief, bearers of good luck for future navigation.
“Every new beginning contains great energy and I am very happy to be part of this adventure,” adds Sergio Cutolo. “This first Explorer by Rosetti Superyachts is the result of a Hydro Tec project and the wishes of the owners who followed it step by step, creating an elegant boat, yet with a strong character”.
