Registration is now open for the 67th edition of the Rolex Giraglia. The offshore race will conclude in the waters of Monte Carlo. A large fleet is expected in the IRC and ORC classes, but also in the maxi and Swan One Design classes.
The Giraglia has always been a symbol for Mediterranean sailors, and has always been used to changing its course. In its long history, in fact, it has started from Cannes, Le Lavandou, Toulon, Sanremo, St. Tropez and has arrived in Monaco, Le Lavandou, St. Tropez, Toulon, Genoa and Sanremo. The route of the long race, however, always remains 241 miles. Igor Simcic, in 2012, scored the record time of 14 hours, 56 minutes and 16 seconds with his Esimit Europa 2.
“Offering an alternative arrival point for the Rolex Giraglia, as happened in the past – declared the President of the Italian Yacht Club Nicolò Reggio – underlines its importance and uniqueness, providing participants with an alternation that contributes to the creation of the charm of the most beautiful offshore race in the Mediterranean”.
The 67th edition of the offshore classic organized by the Italian Yacht Club in collaboration with the Societé Nautique de Saint Tropez in France will be held from 9 to 11 June with inshore races in St. Tropez and departure for the offshore race St. Tropez-Giraglia-Monaco on Wednesday 12. As usual, there will be the traditional Sanremo – St.Tropez regatta, with an evocative night start on 7 June, organised in collaboration with the Sanremo Yacht Club. The closing date for entries is 15 May.
Many sailboats are expected from both the large ORC and IRC offshore fleets, but also from the Maxi and Swan One Design fleets, thanks to the involvement of IMA, the International Association of Maxi Yachts, which has included the Rolex Giraglia in the IMA Mediterranean Maxi Offshore Challenge and the Swan One Design Class (50′-45′-42′). Again, the Rolex Giraglia coastal trials are included as part of The Nations Trophy Med League. For the Maxi 72 and Swan One Design, special racing courses with stick courses will be laid in front of the beaches of Pampelonne, while the ORC and IRC fleets will have their coastal courses in the bay of Saint Tropez.
The Rolex Giraglia is organised by the Yacht Club Italiano in collaboration with the Yacht Club Sanremo and, for the 2019 edition, the Yacht Club de Monaco, the Société Nautique de Saint-Tropez and the Yacht Club de France. Rolex has been a partner of the Rolex Giraglia since 1998 and celebrates this year its twenty-one years of collaboration with the YCI.
