Ranieri 370 Executive is the cruiser version of the flagship of the Soverato shipyard with a more spacious bow cabin and a pair of Suzuki outboard engines of 300 hp each
by Niccolò Volpati
«It was a request from an owner. In practice, he wanted a Next 370 but with more space in the bow cabin. We found his request reasonable, so we decided to meet his needs», says Salvatore Ranieri. This led to the creation of the cruiser version of the flagship of Ranieri International.
The result was not a given. It is a little like watching the sequel of a film you loved: number two can easily be disappointing. This is not the case with the Ranieri 370 Executive and the reason for that is simple. You just need to look at the side to see it. The deckhouse in the bow area is higher so the underlying cabin is a few centimetres taller, but this does not harm its sporty design.
It could have become like one of those American cruising boats with a freeboard that looks like a skyscraper. But the lines of the Ranieri 370 Executive remain sporty. And, measuring it, the average height of the bow cabin is 1.80 metres. At the lowest point it is 1.75 m and at the highest point it is over two metres.
The shipyard has managed to create a cabin that is truly liveable, ideal for those who intend to sail on medium range cruises and spend many days on board. The comfort of the bow cabin and the raised sundeck are not the only new features of this version. The pair of engines installed on the transom is also different. I must say that the two 400 hp Verado Racing engines were truly thrilling.
The thrust, acceleration and power of those “beasts” made by Mercury is truly exceptional. This time at the stern there is a pair of 300 hp Suzuki engines. So a lot less power, a full 200 hp on a boat that is 11.5 metres long. The two Suzuki perform well. At low speeds the thrust is nearly the same as that of the two Mercury Racings.
Pushing the lever all the way down produces very respectable performances: a top speed of 42 knots and very sporty acceleration. Indeed it only takes four seconds to plane and to reach 42 knots takes less than thirty. These performances are more than acceptable, especially keeping in mind that the Executive version was designed to meet the requirements of sailors who love cruising.
The Ranieri 370 Executive hull is unchanged, and behaves well with the two Suzuki engines. It is always on the water, even during the tightest turns. The thirty centimetre waves waiting for us on the Soverato sea are definitely not a worry, but we also feel that the 370 could easily face much more challenging conditions. This is thanks to a wide stern that is a full three metres above water and underneath.
So Ranieri International has managed to produce a boat that is very stable both while sailing and at anchor. Perfect for people who want comfort while cruising.
