Majestic, magnificent, with lots of character, it is a work of naval engineering dressed by a tailor with great skill. The Mangusta GranSport 54 El Leon is a real Renaissance masterpiece from the Italian nautical industry. Not only does it look good, but it also has real substance, as reflected by the figures that tell the story of its imposing feel. 498 tonnes gross tonnage, 358 tonnes when semi laden, 54 metres long and 9 wide, 10,400 horsepower overall supplied through 4 MTU engines developing 1,939 kW each. It does around 30 knots, and at 12 knots has a range of over 4,200 nautical miles.
These figures on their own give an idea of the framework within which the engineers, architects, designers, carpenters and all the women and men at Overmarine have created their work. With its majestic presence, the project has great harmony in which every stylistic element is fitted into the whole in a very balanced way. It wasn’t easy for the designer to renew the long tradition of the yard owned by the Balducci family in maxi open motor yachts. The maturity of his mark has been clearly expressed.
Alberto Mancini told us: «The external lines emphasise the GranSport’s sporty, but never aggressive lines, and reflect the purity of the sleek, sweeping, slender lines from stern to bow, as if it were a sword, in an equilibrium that I would call sculptural, made up of a light and shade effect that portrays dynamic proportions, which make clear reference to the most sophisticated car designs, especially in the stern air intakes and the windows in the steering area. This is advanced styling over 54 metres of aluminium in which I have had the chance to design a clean line that goes beyond simple, ordinary inspiration from cars».
All the surfaces, both of the hull and the superstructure, are perfectly consistent with the exterior layout and with the project for the interiors, creating a harmony of shapes that, without excesses, transmits class and refined elegance.
Mancini stresses: «The areas that best bring out the Mediterranean spirit of the GranSport are the infinity pool with the glass floor which filters light into the bathroom of the owners’ cabin, and the dining area on the flydeck, with long lateral windows that provide transparency and protect from the wind. While the hard top, which I have deliberately integrated in the superstructure, gives protection from the sun and filters the light because of its central glass part».
El Leon was built to meet the specific demands of its owner. A man with very clear ideas, and who has known Overmarine for some time.
He has chosen this particular model because he wants to use his yacht both for pleasure cruising in the Mediterranean and as an explorer, spending long periods on board and getting the most out of its technical characteristics and the trans-oceanic range, while continuing to work when he is at sea.
The layout has been modified to have a layout that is thoroughly customised, with a complete office and a garage that can host a 7.5 metre tender.
The open areas, from the flybridge to the beach club, cover 275 square metres and allow guests to choose between various different dining rooms and open-air lounge areas, which are both shaded and exposed to the sun. The interiors are characterised by the excellent ratio between space and natural light. The ceilings are over 2.10 metres, but because of the clever use of lighting they feel even higher.
The floors are in teak with white joints, and the ceilings are in leather, with wood everywhere, while both walnut and ebony, lacquering, and tone-on-tone colouring characterise the furniture and furnishings. The main living room is extremely airy and full of natural light thanks to the skylights.
The Mangusta GranSport 54 owner’s suite is on the main deck and also has a large balcony with sea views. On the lower deck there are four guest cabins of which two are suites, a fully fitted gym and a multimedia room. All the areas share the same attention to detail, the use of the best materials and an LED lighting system to create a magic atmosphere.
