Stella del Nord, fourth Darwin Class 86′ launched by Cantiere della Marche in 2015, was chosen by Andrea Bocelli who, while being a great singer and composer, is also an experienced shipowner. After having had numerous other yachts of various sizes, he decided he wanted to have a real explorer yacht.
The artist from Lajatico was looking for a yacht that would allow him and his family to sail for a long time and to distant destinations in maximum comfort, even in harsh weather conditions. The Darwin 86′ responds well to these needs: not too large or complicated to steer (a crew of four, registered under 200GT) but spacious enough to provide room and comfort for its passengers.
Andrea Bocelli’s purchase comes through CdM’s pre-owned Sales Department, which only sells yachts built by the shipyard itself, through the Italian broker Corte srl of Lavagna.
Stella del Nord is a true explorer, the twin of Percheron, who has made three Atlantic crossings without a hitch. From a technical point of view, it has remarkable standards of robustness and quality. It has two Caterpillar Cat C12 engines of 287 kW each, reaching a speed of 11.5 knots and a range of 6,700 miles at 8.5 knots.
The interior of Stella del Nord is elegantly decorated with elm and iroko parquet. It has two lounges, one on the main deck and one on the upper deck, four guest cabins below deck, including the owner’s cabin in the middle of the ship, and a very spacious sun deck. As usual, on CdM’s explorer systems and equipment are duplicated to ensure the perfect functioning of the boat. The stern area of the upper deck can accommodate a 5-metre tender.
