It is the largest of the four new models launched by the shipyard from Podenzano for this season: Absolute Navetta 68 is a 20-metre yacht with surprising liveability indoors and a versatile hull, which ensures good planing and displacement performances alike

Two years ago, the arrival of the Navetta 73 had marked Absolute’s definitive entry into the sphere of ‘big boats’. Now, the shipyard is consolidating its position in this super-competitive market with a new 20-metre vessel that has quite a few ‘trumps’ to show its direct competitors. We will soon publish the complete report of our test on the pages of BARCHE, but here is a sneak peek at our first impressions on board this boat.

As by the shipyard’s tradition, the propulsion is IPS with two D13 Volvo Penta engines in the engine room, available in two versions, with either 1,350 or 1,200 HP, as in our test. Also the hull has all the features this shipyard has made us accustomed to and navigates with good figures at several speeds.

The maximum speed we reached was just above 25 knots, with a consumption of 13 litres per nautical mile. These are good figures, especially if you consider the boat’s 53 tonnes of full load displacement and the impressive 5.62 metre maximum beam.

But, beyond its performance when the throttle levers are pushed all the way down, the Absolute Navetta 68 actually showed interesting figures at several speeds: the best performance, in planing, lies at 18.6 knots, @ 2,000 rev, with consumptions reaching an average of 221 litres per hour, which means only 11.9 litres/mile.

We must admit that we also very much appreciated the silence on the navigation bridge, in fact the phonometer stopped at 69 dbA. The boat’s behaviour @ 2,200 rev (i.e. at what could be considered as a fast cruising speed) was still very good with consumptions at 12.5 litres per mile, and even @1,500 rev, at transfer and economy speed, where the flow meter reached 104 litres/hour (8.8 l/MN) which implies a range of almost 400 miles.
